Golf Clap

Yes, a 3 hit shutout on 3 days rest is brilliant. Bravo.

Last year, game 161, Maine struck out like 14 Marlins and the Mets won by double digits.

Look where it got them. The Brewers still have to lose.

And go ahead, ask me: How do I feel about Oliver Perez starting with the season on the line?

All I can say is he'll be hard pressed to do worse than Glavine's season finale in 2007.

And even if he pitches like it is Game 4 of the 2006 NLCS, the Brewers still have to lose.

But at least we bought ourselves a day and that Gangsta proved to be worth every penny.

GO CUBS!

"sabbathia could just blow up tomorrow after all these starts on short rest" he said, fingers tightly crossed. Wishful thinking is as good as any other kind. Brewers lose today and I am looking at Monday. Hear that Ollie? Speed up that leg kick, dodo. We could just sneak by. I am slitiing here watching the Brewers game and feeling just as screwed up as I do watching Met games.

a lot of cub fans at that brewer game. who are the cubs starting tomorrow?

YYYEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!

I am giddy - probably not a good thing, as I am certainly riding for a fall!

I will spend the evening trying to decide whose babies I most want to have - Johan's? Ted Lilly's? or Barack Obama's?

the big 3 choked as usual. Wright, Beltran and Delgado. Sure, Delgado hit a SF. But when it's on the line (when ur mates are not hitting and u need to stand up), only the new guys do it, Murphy, Martinez, even Castro hit a hard line drive to left. We have Arod times 3. This is a ball-less team that hasn't come back all yr. from a 4 run deficit. ALL YEAR! No guts, no glory.

didn't beltran get a hit in the first?"

katherine said...

Yes, jdon, he did. And he went 2 for 4.

And Wright went 2 for 3

Delgado went 0 for 3 but had the RBI

so, anybody superstitious? got any special rituals for today, like the opposite of last year?

sabbathia, again? what's he pitching, like 5 minutes' rest? feckin'ell. I don't know. Oliver Perez. This is starting to feel like Monday playoff

nicked off mlb:
Against the Marlins, Perez is 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA in 31 innings this season.
Scott Olsen, LHP (8-11, 4.23) on Sunday, he'll tie his career high in starts with 33. Over his last five starts, he's 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA (15 earned runs in 30 1/3 innings).
Angel Guzman, RHP (0-0, 7.04) Guzman most likely will not be on the playoff roster. The young right-hander is coming back from elbow surgery last August, and also has had shoulder surgery. This will be his 14th career start and first since May 17, 2007.
CCTVwill make his third consecutive start on three days' rest -
SEP 16 @CHC 0 1 1.82 0 7.0 9 4 0 5
SEP 20 @CIN 0 1 1.81 0 5.2 7 1 1 3
SEP 24 PIT 1 0 1.78 0 7.0 4 1 2 11

Katherine, why not have Citi Field babies? you might get free season tickets.

My superstition for this game last year was: not to watch the first inning, because Glavine had been shaky in first innings. So what I am wondering is, was that a good superstition, because it saved me a lot of pain, or a bad one because it caused him to give up 7 runs?

Here are my two fears: that we suddenly forget how to lambaste a stiff like Olsen, which we do regularly. And that we get a big lead and Ollie starts walking guys once he gets a good lead. He ALWAYS does that.

when you think about it, lou probably wants to lose today. sabbathia will be shot, sheets has announced he is through fo rthe season, they are dead meat for a playoff.

katherine said...

well, things could still go bad today. But at least it will not go bad EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as last year. Yay Ollie for getting through the first inning!

it doesn't take much to please you Katherine.

me again

katherine said...

Well, I have had to lower my expectations the last two years. Losing in a somewhat less painful way is a goal, you know?

I am so mad about the Mets not hitting Scott Olsen, I had to stop watching. I have no idea what's going on.

If katherine were not posting here I would give you a one word pejorative to describe this team perfectly. It is just as well she is here. It makes me a better person. Need I say that I am not surprised. I have half a mind to put my Met fan membership in suspension until the Wilpons wise up and get rid of Omar

katherine said...

jdon, it doesn't matter. Whatever makes you feel better.

Please don't hold back on my account.

What are we going to do now? The thought of having to spend all next year hearing about Collapse II is more than I can bear.

katherine, there is no need for me to go into a diatribe. I am a Met fan for as long as there have been Mets. I can listen to anything. But I have not liked this collection of players since Game 7 2006, when an obviously superior team choked one game from the World Series. Omar's idea of improving the team involved making it even older. I think Omar is a con man. His primary achievements for this team involved writing large checks of other peoples money. I don't think he is very smart. I am glad Uptight Willie is gone. I am glad Manuel is coming back. I like Beltran a little more than I did last year but I liked Wright and Reyes less. I like Pelfrey but Maine and Ollie drive me crazy with their walks. I never liked Wagner but we would have won if he had been around, as unreliable as he could be AT TIMES. This team likes Ramon Castro, a perennial DLer and Endy Chavez, the worst offensive player in the NL, way too much. I was entertained by Tatis and Murphy, felt sorry for Church, admired Easley and hated Castillo. I cannot remember a Met team where I disliked so many, except maybe back in
Bobby Bonilla times. Still, I wanted them to win because they are Mets, but I am not despairing. I hope you are not despairing, Katherine, or any of the rest of you posters. This team is not worthy of our despair.

jdon - what did you hear about Jerry? Has he been rehired?
I am going to have to stop reading the sports section for a few weeks, so I'm relying on blogs to get all my news.
